Katie Koser, L.M.S.W. (class of 2005)

Ms. Koser earned her MSW in 2006 from SUNY Buffalo. She quickly became a Child and Family Therapist for the Catholic Charities’ Monsignor Carr Children’s Clinic in Lockport, NY where she earned her LMSW along with a provisional certificate in school social work. In November of 2007, she became the ‘Pre-K-12 School Social Worker’ for the Pavilion Central School District.  Ms. Koser tells us…

Shakora harrue banks, ph.d. (Class of 1993)

Shakora Banks is a Ph.D. Candidate in Educational Psychology and a faculty member in Social Sciences at Villa Maria College of Buffalo.

Alfred Halley (Class of 2004)

Mr. Halley is a respected member of our field educators and has been promoted to director of housing and operations at Cazenovia Recovery Systems, Inc., Buffalo, NY.

Chuck Kron, l.m.s.w. (Class of 2005)

We have heard through the grapevine that Chuck Kron is working as the ‘6-12 School Social Worker at the Pavilion Central School District ‘. Rumor also tells us that the district was so impressed with Mr. Kron that they created a School Social Worker position just for him.

LEON MYERS , MSW (Class of 2004)

Sadly, Mr. Myers passed away on November 19th, 2007. He received his Master's Degree from UB and had taken a new position with CATS only two months before his untimely death. He is survived by his fiancé Sharon Voelker, son Corey Voelker, and grandchild, Katara Angela Lee Voelker. “He is is missed”.

Abena Achampong, BSW (Class of 2008), is one of two counselors in the Bronx Community College Talent Search Program. The purpose of a Talent Search counselor is to provide academic support to low-income and disadvantaged youth from grades 6th-12th as well as high school dropouts. Ms. Achampong’s focus is high school students from two of the four target high schools, Theodore Roosevelt High School and John Fitzgerald Kennedy High School in the Bronx. The program’s goal is to make sure that at least 80% of participants get promoted to the next grade level. They provide many services such tutoring, counseling, workshops, cultural and educational trips as well as parent workshops.

Lisa Balderman, MSW (Class of 2007, earned her MSW from the University of Toronto in May, 2008 and is now a social worker at Catholic Charities in Buffalo, NY.

Well, I graduated from The School of Social Welfare at Stony Brook University this past June. It was very exciting and overwhelming time... Currently, I am working as supervisor and behavior specialist at a local human service agency in the TRI-STATE area.

I am currently the Program Supervisor for Volunteers of America in San Diego, and just obtained my Master's degree from San Diego State University in Educational Leadership in Student Affairs (2008).

Mollie Jones (McDermott), BSW (Class of 2001)

Before I moved to Austin, TX in November 2004, I worked At Heritage Centers in Buffalo as a Youth & Parenting Specialist and at Transitional Services, Inc as a Residential Counselor. Now in Austin, I've been working at Bluebonnet Trails Community Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center as the Intake Social Worker for Mental Retardation Services. 

I married September 16, 2006 to Jason Jones, also from Buffalo. We love life in Austin!

 

Wende Whiting (Tedesco),  MSW (Class of 1983)

I completed my MSW program at Rockefeller College of Social Welfare (SUNY Albany) in 1985.  I have been employed at Saint Anne Institute in Albany since 1985 and have worked in many capacities including therapist, family therapist, community worker, Intake Director, Assistant Administrator and now Administrator of Residential Clinical Services.  My most influential Professor at BSC was Prof. Pomerantz.  It was a small and very supportive program when I attended.  I am glad to see Ms. Pomerantz is still associated with the program.

Justin Peglowski, MSSA, LMSW (Class of 2005)

Has accepted a new position working as a Clinical Case Manager with AIDS Community Services of WNY. He provides short-term supportive counseling, mental health

assessments, and clinical supervision for the case management staff. Congrats!

 

Andrea Stratton, BSW (Class of 2008),

I am utilizing my methods, research, and policy skills on a daily basis! I am a Medicaid Service Coordinator and I am currently working on a Masters in Mental Health Counseling!  I miss Buffalo State and all the professors!
